Trinity Lace Wigs Announces our Newest Winner

September is Alopecia Awareness Month. In an effort to bring awarenss to alopecia, Trinity Lace Wigs recently gave away one (1) Indian Remy Front Lace Wig. Please read below to see the winner of the TLC front lace wig, products and services with a retail (MSRP) value up to $350.

I have medical hair loss from chemotherapy treatments. The nurse explained to me that I would start losing my hair the 3rd week of treatment and…she was right on. IT FELL OUT IN CLUMPS! I was very emotional because as a woman, my hair is very important to me. Currently, I have very little hair left. After 2 months I still cannot find the courage to shave my head; instead, I wear a cap to hide my hair loss.

Thank you very much for all that you did for me. I greatly appreciate it and love my new hair. This is a great thing that you do for people that suffer from hair loss. May God bless you.

The application of the lace wig is just as important as the selection of the unit. It is imperative to select the highest quality lace wig and ensure that it is installed flawlessly.

If you or your stylist is unsure of how to properly install a lace wig come to the hair replacement specialist at Trinity Lace Wigs. It could mean the difference between this:

Your Insurance Company Can Pay for Your Wig

Did you know that many insurance companies have provisions for covering medically necessary wigs? Here's how to navigate the process and get your wig paid for.

What do you need?

An insurance benefit for a cranial prosthesis: Many insurance companies that cover prostheses of any kind will also cover a medically necessary wig, or cranial prosthesis, for those who experience total hair loss due to medical reasons, especially oncology. So your first point of action is to call up your insurance company and find out what it will cover and the process required for achieving coverage. Your specific budget will depend on your personal situation, diagnosis, insurance benefits, out-of-pocket limits, in-network restrictions and deductible requirements.

Diagnosis from your doctor: Obviously, for a cancer-related or medically necessary wig, you’ll need to provide a copy of the diagnosis from your doctor.

A written prescription from your doctor: Once you have your diagnosis, your doctor can prescribe a "cranial prosthesis" for you (do not say "wig"). Then, you can work with your hair replacement specialist to determine what your insurance will pay for and decide on a type of wig or treatment that fits the parameters. Sometimes your hair replacement specialists can help even further. A patient will get a prescription from the oncologist and they submit a copy of the bill with the appropriate medical code on it and can mail it to the customer's insurance company. Usually a wig is a reimbursement type of expense, but they can also have it billed directly to the customer's insurance. They abide by HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations and can get the prescription from your doctor and handle all the billing. It’s actually all part of their initial consultation for a cancer-related wig.

The Seven (7) H's of Hairloss

The Seven (7) H's of Hairloss
by
Dr. David H. Kingsley
This simple reference (all beginning with the letter 'H' for Hair) is not exhaustive, but covers many of the common causes of hair loss (alopecia) for both men and women. An individual's hair loss may be caused by one or more of these factors. Some of these influences on the hair cycle may cause permanent hair loss whilst others only temporary hair loss.

1.)HEREDITY: many hair problems are passed down in the genes. If one or both parents have hair loss or thin hair, then the chances are increased that their children will also suffer the condition. The more family members that have genetic hair loss, the higher the percentage chance there is for an individual to also suffer the condition.
2) HORMONES: genetic hair loss in both men and women tends to occur when androgens (male hormones) act upon the hair follicle producing a reduction in the size of the affected follicles, which results in a reduction in the diameter and length of the hairs that they produce. A low functioning thyroid (hypothyroidism) or other endocrine gland malfunction can also cause hair loss and hair thinning in men and women. For some women, other hormonal factors such as; irregular menstruation, taking the contraceptive pill, giving birth, or going through menopause can also affect the hair cycle leading to thinner hair.
3) HEALTH: many illnesses can cause hair loss, particularly if associated with a high temperature or an operation that has needed general anaesthetic. Also, certain autoimmune diseases such as lupus can affect the hair cycle and/or hair follicle.
4)HEALING (medication): certain medications or treatments for a particular illness can cause hair loss. Radiation therapy, chemotherapy, anticoagulants, lithium based medications, large doses of vitamin A, and agents that block cholesterol synthesis can all inhibit hair growth
5) HASSLE (stress): stress is a very common trigger for hair loss. Many researchers believe that stress can aggravate genetic hair loss as the skin becomes more sensitive to the effects of androgens (male hormones) during stressful episodes. Severe stress can also influence diffuse shedding of hair (telogen effluvium). Alopecia areata or "patchy" hair loss has also been connected to stress episodes as has trichotillomania (hair pulling).
6) HUNGER (diet): it is commonly accepted that undernourishment slows the growth rate of hair. This is because basic amino acids, fats and vitamins are all necessary to grow healthy hair. Some recent research studies have shown that deficiencies in iron stores, vitamin B-12, & folic acid levels can also lead to an increase in hair shedding. Certain excesses of some vitamins, particularly the fat soluble ones, can also cause temporary hair loss as can severe weight loss due to dieting or inadequate intake of proteins.
7) HAIRDRESSING: over processed hair can become very brittle leading to severe breakage. Also, vigorous brushing or blow drying with very hot air can cause the hair to come out or to break (traction alopecia).

Differences Between a Dermatologist and Trichologist

Have you considered consulting with a professional about your scalp disorder or hair loss? If so, do you know the difference between a Dermatologist and a Trichologist?

The difference between a Dermatologist and a Trichologist is that a Dermatologist specializeds in skin disorders while a Trichologist specializes in several forms of alopecia and scalp disorders. A Trichologist also networks with Medical Doctors, Internal Medicine Doctors, Endocrinologists, Neurologists, Psychologists, Nutritionists, Naturopathic Doctors, Dermatologists, Cosmetologists and Barbers.

There are some systemic conditions that require other medical treatments and/or therapy, combined with alopecia and scalp disorder treatments. A few important comparisons are listed below:

DERMATOLOGIST
  • Listens to client for signs and symptoms, may not examine the scalp thoroughly
  • May give steroid injections to scalp
  • May suggest a biopsy
  • May write a prescription
  • Usally informs patient to stop all chemical processes
TRICHOLOGIST
  • Will obtain the history of the alopecia and scalp disorder
  • Analyzes signs and symptoms
  • Looks for scalp lesions and pimples
  • Looks for erythematic and inflammation
  • Looks for scaly scalp disorders
  • Looks for alopecia and/or damaged hair follicles
  • Will use microscopes to analyze scalp health and hair bulb
  • Will evaluate nutritional deficiencies associated with disorder
There are currently over 30 million Americans who suffer from some scalp disorders or alopecia (hair loss) condition. When you are affected with alopecia or a scalp disorder condition, seek the expertise of a Trichologist; who takes an integrative approach to resolving disorders.

Hair Club

Hair Club
What is a hair club? A hair club is one option that many people consider when they decide to take action or deal with their hair loss. These hair clubs have gained popularity due to their numerous advertisments, television infomercials, magazine and internet ads.
This option is usually a very expensive and time consuming choice.
Once you commit to a club you are signing up for a long-term service with both up-front and on-going expenses. The best option is to purchase your very own unit directly. When you purchase your own hair unit, you can take care of your hair needs personally in the comfort of your own home.
The majority of hair clubs require that you sign a contract. Once you are a member of a hair club, you are obligated to rely on them for your hair care services. As the owner of your own hair unit, you are no longer committed to making expensive appointments for maintenance. You can maintain your personal hair needs on your own, anytime.
At Trinity Lace Wigs, WE DO NOT HAVE CONTRACTS. If you already own your hair unit, provide us the information to duplicate your unit at a fraction of the cost. If you don't...do not worry; we are here to assist you in choosing the right unit for you. No matter who you are we can help.
